Principal’s Message

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our college website and hope that you find the information here valuable.

Our De La Salle College Revesby Heights motto is “Christo Regente” (‘Christ Reigns’) and it underpins the ever-present Catholic life of the college. We provide our students with many opportunities to enliven gospel values and they are encouraged to be generous in both word and action. Our slogan Excellence, Service, Community, Empowering Young Men for the Future is a reflection of the college’s commitment to academic excellence and the provision of a broad and dynamic education in a safe and supportive community, designed to form young men of substance who contribute positively to our world.

As a relatively small secondary college, we benefit from a strong community, with an environment of care and support for each student with student wellbeing at the heart of all we do. We aim to work closely with each individual student and their families in a spirit of unity to provide a place of learning where students feel they truly belong. It is this sense of belonging for each student that truly sets us apart, with students of all years mixing together in a true community atmosphere – it is a common daily experience at the college to see year 7 and 8 students engaged in a game of soccer or basketball at lunchtime with the older students!

We have very high academic expectations of our students, with our teachers dedicated to delivering a high-quality, boys-focused education as reflected in the outstanding results in NAPLAN and the Higher School Certificate.

The extra-curricular experiences we provide for our students enables a truly boys focused education with a broad range of sports, retreats, camps, outdoor education, artistic and other opportunities for students to enjoy and excel in.

When your son enrols at De La Salle College Revesby Heights, your family becomes part of our community. We welcome parent involvement in the life of the college and pride ourselves on the wonderful relationship we have with the families of our students.

I invite you to look through the contents of our college website and we welcome any enquiries you may have.

Mr Michael Hollis
Principal

De La Salle College Revesby Heights is a Catholic systemic 7-12 college for boys, established in the Lasallian tradition of St John Baptist De La Salle.

The De La Salle Brothers founded De La Salle College Revesby Heights in 1960 as a Years 5-10 school with enormous support from the two local parish priests of the time.

The college was the first Catholic school in Sydney to open with more lay teachers than religious and was primarily built by the voluntary labour of the parents and parishioners of the local parishes.

The De La Salle Brothers were responsible for the administration of the college until the end of 1992 when the first lay principal was appointed. Since its foundation, the college has had only six principals with a very stable administrative and teaching staff. The primary section of the college closed at the end of 1994.

The college has undergone many changes over the years; most notably, the transformation from a Year 7-10 school to that of a Year 7-12 school. In 2004, it was announced that the college would include HSC classes commencing in 2006, with the first HSC class graduating in 2007.

We Believe

  • That our Catholic faith is the basis which guides our educational endeavours and that students learn best in a community where the Gospel in the spirit of St John Baptist De La Salle is central to the lives of students, staff and parents.
  • That there are opportunities for all students to excel when their specific learning needs are identified and met, integrating Gospel Values, technology and literacy strategies into all areas of the curriculum.
  • That a supportive and challenging environment where students are rewarded, take responsibility for their own learning and have access to a variety of technologies is essential for effective teaching, learning and planning.
  • In the uniqueness of each individual and the development of the whole person and in realising the advantages and opportunities presented by the Year 7 to 12 school structure.
  • That the college strives to promote a positive image in the wider community by working closely with parents, local parishes, community organisations and local Catholic schools with a commitment to promoting peace and justice.
  • Our students learn best in a safe, stimulating, aesthetically pleasing environment in which resources are appropriate to students’ needs and distributed equitably to all curriculum areas.

We are incredibly proud of our connection to our local parish of St Patrick’s Revesby Heights where student leaders are on the roster for weekend mass ministries throughout the year.

We are also connected to St Luke’s Revesby where staff and students undertake ministries in the Educare Mass and the Feast of St Luke’s. Our connection to the parish school of St Luke’s is further enhanced by our Literacy Buddies Program where Year 7 students are selected to read their stories about the real meaning of Christmas with the Year 1 students. In the Lasallian tradition of being the older brother, this peer ministry then requires the Year 7 boys to facilitate the writing of a similarly themed book by their Year 1 literacy group.

Our Year 12 Catholic Studies students have a rich tradition in supporting the sacramental preparation days for St Christopher’s at Panania by leading small groups for First Holy Communion and Confirmation preparation. Students from across Years 9 to Year 12 participate in parish-based youth groups at Revesby and St Therese Padstow.
